Morgan Moses of the New England Patriots was listed as limited on Monday, Oct. 19, before Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bears. The Patriots face a short turnaround after Sunday’s 26-19 win over the New York Jets.
The Patriots’ official Monday injury report listed Moses as limited, while Ben Brown, Carlton Davis III, Joshua Farmer and Alijah Vera-Tucker did not participate.
Boston.com reported that Moses left the Jets game with an ankle injury, while the Patriots’ practice report listed his current issue as a foot injury. New England’s early injury report also included four other limited participants and eight full participants after Moses, Brown and Vera-Tucker left Sunday’s victory with injuries.
Patriots Injury Report Gives Morgan Moses a Chance to Play
Moses took part in Monday’s walkthrough on a limited basis after leaving the win over New York. The designation keeps him in the group of players being evaluated before Thursday night, but it does not establish his availability for the game.
The Monday report came during a short turnaround before Thursday night’s game in Chicago. A limited designation on an early-week report provides an update on participation without serving as a final game status.
Patriots List Four Players as Nonparticipants
The official Monday report listed Brown, Davis, Farmer and Vera-Tucker as nonparticipants. Brown and Vera-Tucker are the most direct offensive-line concerns because Boston.com reported that both left Sunday’s win over the Jets.
Moses’ limited participation gives the Patriots another offensive-line player to monitor before the Chicago game. The team’s next practice designations will provide another update during the compressed preparation period.
Eight Patriots Were Full Participants
Eight Patriots were listed as full participants: Bryant, Byard, Campbell, Elliss, Henderson, Jones, Maye and Woodson. Campbell and Maye were among the eight Patriots listed as full participants.
The full-participation group included players from multiple areas of the roster, giving New England a positive portion of the Monday report as it began preparations for Chicago. The designation reflects Monday participation and does not determine Thursday availability by itself.
Caleb Lomu Could Be Important for the New England Offensive Line
Rookie tackle Caleb Lomu replaced Moses against the Jets after Moses left the game. Pro Football Focus credited Lomu with zero pressures allowed on 30 pass-blocking snaps in that matchup.
Lomu’s performance gives the Patriots recent game evidence to consider while evaluating their offensive line for a short week. His role for Thursday has not been announced, so the PFF figure provides context rather than a prediction about the starting lineup.
Mike Vrabel Emphasizes the Short Week
“It’s a short week,” Vrabel said. “So whether they can make it back or not, I don’t know. We’ll have to see.”
Vrabel said New England must determine which players are available and find 48 players to put out there. The Patriots are preparing for a Thursday night game at Soldier Field, leaving the coaching staff and roster personnel with a compressed window to make those decisions.
Romeo Doubs Moves to Injured Reserve
The Patriots placed Romeo Doubs on injured reserve after a shoulder injury, according to Boston.com. The move removes Doubs from the immediate group of players being evaluated for the short-week matchup.
The Patriots play the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Thursday night, with the game serving as New England’s next opportunity to act on the Monday practice designations.
