K.J. Britt, Elliott Davison Revert to Patriots Practice Squad

K.J. Britt and Elliott Davison returned to the Patriots practice squad Monday after appearing against the Raiders. Each has two standard elevations left before a 53-man roster contract is needed for another game appearance.

K.J. Britt, Elliott Davison Revert to Patriots Practice Squad - New England Patriots

K.J. Britt and Elliott Davison reverted to the New England Patriots practice squad on Monday, Oct. 12, after serving as standard elevations against the Las Vegas Raiders, Pats Pulpit reported. Each player has two standard elevations remaining.

After using those elevations, either player would need a contract on the Patriots’ 53-man roster to appear in another game. The two were elevated for New England’s Week 5 matchup with Las Vegas and returned to the practice squad after the game.

Oliver Thomas of Pats Pulpit reported that the pair made their 2026 regular-season debuts in the Patriots’ 45-17 win at Gillette Stadium. Their contributions came on special teams and, in Davison’s case, on defense as well.

K.J. Britt and Elliott Davison return to the Patriots practice squad

Britt played 14 special-teams snaps against the Raiders, according to Thomas. He recorded a tackle on a kickoff return by Las Vegas running back Dylan Laube, marking Britt’s first tackle of the regular season.

The linebacker signed with New England as an unrestricted free agent in March. After the Patriots released him from their initial 53-man roster as a vested veteran, he joined the practice squad as September began. His Week 5 elevation gave him a regular-season game appearance with the team.

Britt entered the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a fifth-round pick in 2021, selected 176th overall. The Auburn product had appeared in 77 games and made 16 starts, Thomas reported. Before joining New England, Britt spent the previous season with the Miami Dolphins.

His career totals include 162 tackles, half a sack, four tackles for loss and three passes defensed. Thomas also reported that Britt had played 994 defensive snaps and 1,303 special-teams snaps over his career, reflecting work in both phases.

Elliott Davison made his regular-season NFL debut

Davison played 10 defensive snaps and 19 special-teams snaps in his first regular-season NFL game beyond the preseason, Thomas reported. He finished with two tackles and a pass deflection on a third-down play against Raiders quarterback Fernando Mendoza in the fourth quarter.

The safety entered the league as an undrafted free agent from UTSA in 2025. He spent his rookie season on the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad before joining New England’s practice squad during the first week of September.

Davison was released and re-signed by the Patriots, according to Thomas. He later made one start during August before clearing waivers at the roster cutdown deadline. His appearance against Las Vegas was his first regular-season opportunity with New England.

Like Britt, Davison has two standard elevations left. The distinction matters for the next time the Patriots might want either player available on game day: once those elevations are used, another appearance requires a 53-man roster contract.

Patriots have openings ahead of the Jets visit

New England had one open practice-squad spot and one open roster spot after the weekend’s transactions, Pats Pulpit reported. Those openings followed cornerback Kindle Vildor’s promotion and safety Brenden Schooler’s activation, while fullback Reggie Gilliam and wide receiver Mack Hollins went on injured reserve.

The openings provide roster flexibility, but Britt and Davison’s reversion does not itself put either player on the 53-man roster. Their current status is the practice squad, with the standard-elevation limit governing additional game appearances unless the team signs them to the active roster.

The New York Jets are scheduled to visit Gillette Stadium the following Sunday, Oct. 18, for a divisional matchup. The game is listed for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff, according to Pats Pulpit.

For the Patriots, the immediate roster picture includes two available spots and two players who have already contributed in Week 5. Any further roster move or game-day elevation would be a separate decision; the reported transaction leaves both players on the practice squad for now.
